Florida Votes 2016: Hernando County Commissioner District 3

Diane Rowden is running for her second consecutive term as Hernando County Commissioner in District 3 against opponent John Allocco.

Neither granted requests for an interview for this election preview.

Rowden, who has lived in Hernando County for 33 years, was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2000 and 2004 before being elected again in 2012 for District’s 3 seat. She strives to leave Hernando County better than when she found it.

While in office, Rowden has said she helped to grow local businesses by bringing in new companies and increasing jobs at existing companies. She said she has also helped to improve roadways, county parks and transit services.

Allocco, who is pursuing political office for the first time, owns and operates a physical therapy practice in Hernando County with his wife, Randi. If elected, he aims to bring a new perspective to the county.

Allocco said he believes his small business experience will help grow a more business-friendly environment. He plans to encourage new businesses to come to the community, as well as growing preexisting businesses.

Allocco also wants to strengthen Hernando County by working closely with the sheriff’s office, the school board, and community.
